New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Amberley lies near the south coast between Arundel and Pulborough on the main line to London Victoria and is about 10 miles east of Chichester as the crow flies.
Railway type and traffic
The traffic is unlikely to be vary much from regular Class 377 EMU's Southern services running from Bognor Regis, Portsmouth and Littlehampton.
Link to Real Time Trains
RTT Link Amberley Station
This link should be close to the location, but may not be the actual location so please check the page. This link will take you to what is happening 'around now'. Dates and times can be changed at the top of the page.
Environment
An unmanned station in a very rural location. The B2139 runs under a railway bridge to Amberley village about half a mile away and access to a footpath along the River Arun is in the other direction. Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre is across the road.
Road directions
The B2139 runs east from a junction with the A29 and after crossing the river and passing under the railway bridge, the station entrance is immediately to the right, is signposted but is not obvious. If you are bending left here you have gone a few yards too far.

Photographic notes
The station lies within a chalk cutting and light can be poorish on a cloudy day. I think it is unlikely that the rising gradient towards the station receives much sunlight except midday in summer.
Open country lies to the north if you are shooting in that direction and the light is much better. The platform ends are best for taking photos.
